Are you okay with Canon Puncturing in regards to your character? (Having your character be told they are fictional IC)? yes. But he does know several real world historical figures so it might get confusing...

Status Screen (Character Info)
Name: Thorfinn
Canon: Vinland Saga
Title: Every character has a title, even if it's just, say, 'Average Joe.' Are they a 'World Champion'? A 'Beauty Queen'? A 'Nobody'? If you leave this blank, a title will randomly be assigned by the bureaucracy.

Background:

Thorfinn started his life as a cheerful and somewhat mischievous child in a small village in Iceland. He loves his family and one of his favorite things to do is play fight with the other neighborhood kids with a little wooden sword and shield. His other favorite past time was listening to the tales that Leif Erikson told whenever he stopped by his village during his travels. The tales the old adventurer told of Vinland would continue to appear in Thorfinn's dreams throughout his entire life. Something about the idea of the beautiful peaceful virgin land far beyond the western sea with green field as far as the eye could see would never leave him alone.

Unfortunately Thorfinn's peaceful life would not last for very long at all. When he was five years old the Jom Vikings came to his village and demanded his father's assistance in the war that was erupting in England. Apparently his father, Thors, had been a general of the Jom Vikings long ago and had eventually deserted after growing tired of the fighting and seeing the futility in war. Now though his past had come for him and if he didn't go to war they would return and burn the village to the ground.

Thorfinn was determined to help his father though, even though he was only five. He stowed away on his father's ship and didn't come out until past the point where returning would be difficult. There was a trap waiting for them though at the Faroe Islands where Thors was intending on stocking up on supplies and handing little Thorfinn over to Lief to bring back home. Waiting there was a band of mercenary pirates who had been hired to kill the man by the leader of the Jom Vikings as punishment for his original desertion.

Thors put up an amazing fight, and even single handedly defeated over two dozen armed Vikings with his bare hands and without killing a single one. The leader of the rouge viking, a man called Askeladd the challenged Thors to a one on one duel with the man. However he could see he wouldn't be able to defeat him and had Thorfinn taken hostage. Unable to do anything without risking his son's life, Thors had no choice but to exchange his own life for Thorfinn's. He was slain by arrows before the boy's very eyes.

That broke something in the child, and instead of going back home with Leif he stowed away on the enemy's ship and vowed he would kill the man who murdered his father. Even though he was only five at the time the intensity of his glare when he screamed that vow to the gods actually managed to frighten several grown men.

Not too much is covered over the next decade but a few things are known. At some point he reached some sort of agreement with Askeladd. He wanted to face the man in an honorable one on one duel to restore his family's honor. Askeladd was a shrewd man and said he would only give him a chance if he did something for him first. These things usually involved being sent on suicidal missions and being thrown onto the battlefield.

When he was ten he was being sent on covert scouting missions and was able to take on multiple grown men, warriors themselves, and kill them within a few moments without any hesitation.

By the time he was sixteen he was completely different from the cheerful little kid he was back in Iceland. He was cold and stoic, completely uncaring to the carnage and destruction that was constantly around him. In battle he'd become a frightening warrior who didn't balk at anything, even if his 'missions' got him sent through throngs of enemy soldiers and raining arrows.

Ironically he became Askeladd's most trusted man. Thorfinn was not the type of person who would slit his throat in the middle of the night, he only wanted to kill him in a fair duel so he didn't have to worry about being backstabbed. His single minded obsession with killing him also ensured that he was a perfect guard. He DID NOT want anyone to kill the man aside from himself, and was more then willing to protect him from anyone. Askeladd could also get the boy to do just about anything for him by promising him a duel, which usually involved acting as an assassin and beheading enemy generals to break the troops' spirits.

Unlike many of his fellow vikings though, Thorfinn took no joy in killing, even though he regularly racked up a higher body count then anyone else in Askeladd's crew. For him it was simply a means to an end. Killing people in battle meant more chances to challenge Askeladd.

Though he wouldn't like to admit it his father's killer almost becomes a sort of mentor to him. Despite how many times Thorfinn tells him not to talk to him, Askeladd often imparts bits of knowledge and wisdom and even the occasional history lesson to him.

Eventually they joined the battles in England and after a series of battles Thorfinn was somehow made the personal bodyguard to Prince Canute of Denmark, much to his great displeasure. He really despised the prince (or 'Princess' as he referred to him) because despite the fact that they were near to the same age, the Prince was the exact opposite of Thorfinn, shy, meek and cowardly. He would repeatedly snark at him and make fun of him, despite the fact that everyone kept telling him 'Uh you really shouldn't be talking like that to royalty!' Despite that he did do his job VERY well. He protected the young prince from attackers and assassins alike and even doused himself with water and charged into a forest fire to go and grab him.

He actually begins to develop some form of vague friendship with the Prince, or at least an understanding. It's notable that Canute is the only one Thorfinn has ever willingly eaten dinner with. Normally he eats alone, and he clearly displays that he gives no shits that Canute is royalty... Plus it does help that Canute is actually a really good cook and food is notable for being one of the only things that can get you into Thorfinn's good graces.

Personality:

I have a lot of his personality mixed in with his background section so I'll try and keep this part brief.

Thorfinn is prickly and not very social at all. He would rather usually rather eat outside in the cold weather then inside with other people (the once exception to this so far seems to be Canute, though he might have just eaten with him in there because he promised to make him stew, and if Thorfinn has a weakness it's delicious prepared meals that are more then just roasted meat). He is verbally abusive to people he dislikes (he doesn't even TRY to hide his distaste), and he is generally not very respectful towards anyone. Even those he tolerates (pretty much just Canute) he tends to tease and snark at (to a SLIGHTLY more playful degree then to others), and tends to find it humorous when his comments get under people's skin.

He really has no motivations or long time goals in his life. The one and only thing he truly desires is to kill the man who murdered his father. He will literally do anything, kill anyone, to get another chance to duel the man who killed him. It's a rather warped sort of honor he has actually. He willingly works for the man he wants to kill, to earn chances to face him in an honorable duel (it's the only what he wants to fight him), all the while killing people left and right on the battlefield without really giving it a second thought.

He has a really bad temper, and it's very easy to set him off in a fight. The angrier he gets the more apt he is to just charge headlong into things and not think about the consequences. He tends to get the majority of his injuries when he gets that way as well. When he's calmer and has a clear head he can see through opponent's moves and dodge easily and swiftly.

He's also surprisingly intelligent for someone who has had little to no sort of normal education. He rarely forgets anything that's told to him, though if he feels information is useless he'll often cut someone off mid explanation. He seems to be good at geography and finding his way around places as he's frequently sent on scouting missions and has little trouble navigating. It's also implied that he knows how to play a game called 'Hnefatafl' which is sort of like an ancient Norse version of chess.

Evilities:

Thorfinn has athletic abilities far above average. Most notable is his speed and jumping ability. He can easily dodge arrows and even outrun them to a certain point. He can jump ridiculously far lengths, the exact length is vague but it's enough to completely clear the average moat. Though it's not named anything he also has an ability identical to what's known as 'flash stepping' in other canons. Meaning that for brief moments he can move fast enough to seem like he completely vanishes. He usually does this to move into a better position, such as an enemy's blind spot.

He is also a weapons expert. He mostly wields a pair of long knives/short swords in battle. He also has deadly near supernatural accuracy with throwing knives (for example he could take out a soldier's eye... who happened to be riding on horseback who was also wearing a helmet with a nose guard... all the while Thorfinn was ALSO on a moving horse drawn cart). He has shown proficiency in both long sword and bow and arrow though he uses those very infrequently.

Inventory:

Set of clothes made from leather wool and fur
Fur lined cloak
Pair of long daggers
Three million throwing knives (actually it's like twelve at most)
Small pouch with enough silver coins in to pay for food and a few nights in a decent inn

Sample Post:

Thorfinn carefully cleaned the grit off his knife as he peered into the shadowy woods. Something was going to happen soon. What exactly, the lad wasn't certain. But he had lived on the battlefield long enough to sense certain things. There was a tension in air, it felt almost like a physical force.

Of course that tension might have just been annoyance as well. That idiot prince had risen from bed a little bit ago to sit next to him and attempt to chat. When it was clear that Thorfinn, as usual, was in no mood for pleasantries that damn brat didn't even have the decency to go away. No he just continued sitting next to him in silence... which would not have been such a terrible thing if he hadn't fallen asleep on his damn shoulder.

“Hey, Princess, I ain't your pillow, get up,” he scowled and pinched his highness's royal cheek. Canute had the audacity to just grumble incoherently and continue sleeping.

“Dammit... are you really so unworried that you'd just fall asleep anywhere?” he sighed and rolled his eyes, slipping his knife back into it's sheath. The last thing he needed was Canute flopping over and falling on it's point. He was fairly certain poking a hole in a member of the royal family, accident or no, would definitely be grounds for execution.

“Alright get up already,” his frown deepened and he pushed and prodded but finally got the the idiot to his feet and half guided half shoved him back inside to his bed. He thought he heard a mumbled word of thanks as he exited, but he ignored it, instead simply returning to his post from before to resume his vigil.
